2013 Workshop - General Information
The first Ayitic - Internet for Development workshop was held on 12-16 August, 2013 at the Canado-Technique Institute in Port-au-Prince. This workshop received the invaluable support of the NSRC, the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, and its partners – the Internet Society, Google, ICANN, Transversal, Haiti Data Networks and Haiti Tec. The opening ceremony was attended by Jean Marie Guillaume, Director General of the National Communications Council; Jean Marie Altema, Coordinator of Haiti's e-Government Unit; Harry Lindor, Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Public Works, Transportation and Communications; Evens Toussain, Dean of the School of Social Sciences of Haiti's State University; Raul Echeberria, Executive Director of LACNIC; and Reynold Guerrier, President of the Haitian Association for Information and Communication Technologies (AHTIC), who served as moderator.

The workshop's content was selected based on the results of a survey conducted among more than 120 professionals. Two hundred and sicty-seven applications were received and 100 participants were selected to attend four tracks, each of them designed for 25 participants: VoIP/IP Telephony, Network Management, Wireless Data Networks, and Computer Security. Results
The website was the main link between the project and its participants.
The strong interest generated by the workshop and the large number of applications we received led us to include an extra day of activities with presentations on specific topics so that those who would be unable to attend the workshop (specifically, the 160 individuals who applied but exceeded the workshop's 100 participant limit) would have the chance to get to know the project and its objectives, as well as the opportunity to hear presentations by expert instructors. These presentations were as follows:
- Max Larson Henry: IXP (ISP Setup, etc). ISP Network Architecture.
- Nicolás Montavont : IPv6
- Dosseh Abiassi: Experiences of Training in Africa.
- Alain Aina: Domain Name System Security Extensions DNSSEC.
A satisfaction survey was conducted after the Ayitic 2013 workshop, the results of which showed that 98.8% of attendees considered the contents of the workshop to be "adequate" or "very adequate." In addition, 65.4% of attendees found that the training materials provided for the workshop were "very adequate," while 61.8% replied that the hands-on activities organized by the instructors were "very useful," 75% of respondents said they understood and were able to learn the topics that were presented, and 86.4% replied that the learning environment among their peers was "excellent" or "very good."
One of the project's expected results is contributing to promote medium-term changes in participants' capabilities and opportunities, for which a follow-up mechanism was designed according to which participants were sent a new survey six months after the workshop in order to understand how they had used the knowledge they acquired and its impact. In the case of the 2013 workshop, 78% of participants found that participating in the workshop was a "great" contribution to their know-how, while 63% replied that the workshop was "very useful" for their job and that they had been able to apply "much" of the knowledge they acquired. Likewise, 25% of attendees now have a better job than the one they had before the 2013 Ayitic workshop (6 months earlier). Finally, 23% of surveyed participants had been able to accept new and better responsibilities, either thanks to a promotion or to having applied for a better job, having been able to lead new projects and having expanded their performance.
