• 2014 Workshop - General Information

  Dates:

  The 2014 Workshop has taken place from 11-15th August 2014 at the Canado-Technique Institute in Port-au-Prince, from 9:00 to 18:00 pm.

  Addressed to:

  The workshop has been designed especially for Haitian residents.

  Selection:

  Three hundred and twenty-five applicants registered during the registration period, 150 of which will participated in the workshop.

  Tracks

  The tracks were defined according to the interests of those who have pre-registered the 2014 Workshop. The tracks that had the greatest impact among the pre-registered are the following : IPv6 Deployment (intermediate) level , Network Security (intermediate level), IP Telephony (advanced level), Wireless Networks (advanced level), Wireless Networks (intermediate level) and Network Management (intermediate level ).

  IPv6 Deployment (intermediate level )

  Julien Montavont

  Julien Montavont is a Professor at the Université de Strasbourg, in France. He obtained his master's degree in 2004, and his Ph.D. in computer science in 2006, also at the Université de Strasbourg. Today, he's researching engineering science, computer science and medical science with imaging as the unifying theme (ICube, a research lab working at the Université de Strasbourg, with input from the CNRS, ENGEES and INSA). His research is focused in wireless networks and the "Internet of things", and especially in the management of wireless equipment, multihoming, MAC protocols, and energy saving wireless routing. He has co-written more than 20 international publications, and has been the tutor for 3 PhD students. He also does peer review for a number of journals, and acts as a panelist in international conferences as the Ad Hoc Networks (Elsevier) and the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, among others. In 2008, he was a guest researcher at the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal under the tutelage of Professor Samuel Pierre.

  Lucien Loiseau

  Lucien Loiseau is a researcher in computer science and telecommunication. He received the M.Sc degree from university of Rennes 1 in 2009 and obtained his Ph.D. in computer science in 2013 at institut Mines-Telecom / Telecom Bretagne (France). On September 2014, he will start a post-doc at the Nanyang Technological University at Singapore. His research topics during his PhD were relaying in IEEE 802.11 ad hoc networks for efficient communication. He is now evolving toward sensors network protocols and architecture for smart, sustainable and safe cities.

  Emil Ivov Petrov

  Emil Ivov is the founder of the Jitsi project and current project lead for the jitsi.org community. He obtained his Ph.D. in computer science in 2008, at the University of Strasbourg and has been concentrating on Jitsi related activities ever since. Emil is also an IETF contributor, responsible for the WebRTC extensions to ICE (trickle ICE) and other specifications such as the CUSAX technology. In 2008, Emil earned his Ph.D. from the Université de Strasbourg (France), and has since mainly worked in activities related with Jitsi, in the startup BlueJimp.

  Petuel Placide

  Network Engineer, accountant, Project Manager for Development (PMD-Pro) Pétuel works as network administrator, IT technician since 2009 and instructor of accounting and financial software since 2006. After 6 years (2005-2011) of experience working in a private company as accountant then as Senior Administrative Officer, because of his passion for ICT, especially for Networking, he has decided to change career from accounting and business administration to IT professional. Since June 2012, He works as Assistant IT manager at ACME S.A (www.acmehaiti.org) , a private company, one of the market leaders in Micro-financial Services in the country. He has the responsibility to supervise IT technicians' team, to maintain, monitor, secure, administrate and manage a medium computer network of more than 350 hosts, distributed in 30 branches in different cities in HAITI…In Jully 2008, he founded, a private company (DupacteliNET Training and Services) started as an Internet Cafe, but 2 years later became a company who provides IT services and Training to particulars and businesses. As CEO founder of DUPACTELINET he also works for FEDE (www.enfantsdexception.org) from February 2013 to December 2013 in executing their development's project "Preserve the future by protecting and by mentoring young" financed by ICCO and Kerk in Actie (http://www.icco-international.com/int/ et http://www.kerkinactie.nl/) , as consultant and IT trainer.During the last 2 years, he was a participant in LACNIC Caribbean 4 (2012), in the IPv6 Workshop and later in AYITIC Workshop 3 in the track "Wireless Data Transmission

  Jeffrey Carre

  Jeffrey N. Carré. HaitiWeb Developer, IT Trainer, Network AdministratorHe joined the consortium FRDDH/FDS ( Fondation Réseau de Développement Durable d'Haïti / Faculté des Sciences de l'université d'état d'Haïti ) in 2009 for the management ccTLD .ht. Until November 2011 he was a technical contact for the registry and attended manygovernment and private consulting on IT deployment.In 2010, after the earthquake he joined Transversal as a softwaredeveloper forthe creation of a mobile money/voucherplatform. He also worked at Transversal in a nationwideinternet project as a field IT technician and trainer for the local ISPs.

  	Hans Ricardo Noel
  	Hans Ricardo Noël is a Cisco, A+,Unifi and AirMax Instructor at the Professional Training Center of Haití (Canado Technique). In 2008 he earned his System Administrator certification, and in 2013, his CCENT certification. He is currently the Lead Technician of the Computer department at Canado Technique.

  Wireless Networks (advanced level)

  Bertin Abiassi

  In 1994, he graduated as a programmer analyst. Professionally, he worked in education for more than 10 years in several private tertiary level institutions in Togo, Africa. He has also held positions of technical and commercial responsibility, and teaching, at Togo's main internet provider, CAFÉ Informatique et Télécom. Mr Abiassi worked as a programmer analyst at the telecommunications company CTW in Warwick, Quebec for 4 years. Being a consultant and a teacher, he teached at the Abesterie's Professional Training Center in Asbestos (Quebec), training students in the use of information technologies in commercial areas. He is currently a programmer analyst at Borealis (Quebec), a firm offering social responsibility and environmental impact management solutions to mining and natural gas companies. He is also a student at the UQAM's tele-university.

  Andrés Arcia

  Since 2002, Andrés Arcia-Moret is Associate Professor in Computer Engineering at the University of the Andes, in Mérida, Venezuela. He obtained his degree in Science (cum laude) and his Master’s in Computer Engineer at the University of the Andes. He also holds a Doctorate Degree in Computer engineering from the Institut Mines-Telecom (Télécom Bretagne) in France. He has been a guest researcher at the IRISA/CNRS in Rennes (France), as well as in the Guglielmo Marconi Laboratory in the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy. His research is aimed at transport layer, wireless networks, and network simulators.

  Carlos Armas

  Network Engineer and Trainer. Carlos Armas is a network engineer and trainer for the NetworkStartup Resource Center (NSRC).Carlos is also a managing director at Roundtrip Networks Corp., an online services consultancy.Carlos has been involved in network workshops and training since 1995, including INET and WALC. At NSRC Carlos helps with workshop planning, training material development, teaching and technical assistance. Carlos holds a bachelor degree in Computer Engineering from University of Havana/ISPJAE. For the last 5 years he has designed and operated data center and network services for over 20 start-up organizations in the U.S. and Canada. Prior to working with Roundtrip Networks Carlos held technical management positions at several Silicon Valley-based companies including Babycenter.com, ConsumerHealth Interactive, and Opentable.com. He also served as network services consultant for the U.S. Arthritis Foundation.

  Alain Aina

  Network Engineer and Traininer. Network engineer, M. Aina is very active in technical networking activities in AFRICA. He worked to launch the first full IP services in the Togolese Republic in 1996 and helped many entities to do so in West Africa and on the continent in general. He founded, in 1999, a private company which provides network and training services to boost Networking and Internet services deployment on the continent (http://www.trstech.net), and is an AFNOG founder and instructor since 2000. He leads many Internet related projects and activities for the good of the local community. Since November 2006, he has worked as “special project manager” at AfriNIC, a half time activity, which includes various projects (DNSSEC, RPKI, root server Anycast....) training, and IETF activities for the RIR. He served from June 2008 to December 2008 as acting CTO and Acting CEO of AfriNIC from March 2011 to August 2011. He also works for NSRC on various projects, supporting networking activities and trainings as part time work. He has served since 2002 as a member of the ICANN Stability and Security Advisory committee (SSAC) and on the Internet Society Board of trustees (2011-2014). He has been since 2008, Spokesman of the African Secret Working group, http://african.secret-wg.org/

  Joe Abley

  Network and Systems Trainer. Joe has worked in technical, infrastructure and operational roles in Internet network and service companies in the UK, New Zealand, Canada and the USA since the mid-90s. Most recently Joe has led ICANN's DNS Operations department, and has been involved in the deployment of DNSSEC in the root zone of the DNS and the global distribution of the L Root Server. Joe narrowly avoided dismal failure at the University of Cambridge and miraculously graduated with a BA (Hons) in Natural and Computer Science. Joe has been involved in training and programme development at many regional operator meetings including APRICOT, SANOG, AfNOG, NZNOG, NANOG, CIF, RIPE, and has been an enthusiastic volunteer at NSRC for some years. Joe chaired the NANOG Steering Committee in 2006-2007 and is a founding Trustee of NZNOG and a Fellow of InternetNZ. Joe lives in London, Ontario, Canada with two children, two cats and a girlfriend who has yet to realise that she is too good for him. In times of great emergency he has been known to try and make himself understood in French, with variable (sometimes hilarious) results.

  Max Larson Henry

  Network Engineer, IT Trainer and EntrepreneurHe founded, in 2005, Transversal which provides network, training services and Mobile application development. He is a co-Founder of The Haitian Association for the Development of Information Technology and Communication (AHTIC) which includes almost all the key players of the technology sector in Haiti.Max has been teaching the past ten years at State University of Haiti and is very active in ICT in the LATAM region. Along his contributions to launch .ht ccTLD, Help Haitian ISPs to build their Core Infrastructure and Create the Haitian Internet Exchange Point, Max has been serving as co-Chair of the public policy Forum at LACNIC since 2008.
